"New Year, New You” This phrase irritates me.
Every New Year I see people getting hung up on making New Year Resolutions only to see them disappointed mid-way through January when they have not managed to stick to their goals.
The key for me is to look at how I can make my life even better rather than looking at my life in a negative way.
Rather than thinking, “I have put on so much weight over the holidays” how about thinking, “I really enjoyed relaxing during the holidays”.
That way we acknowledge that we have gifted time for ourselves rather than feeling guilty.
It is all about perspective. Why do we need to change every New Year?
This year, how about acknowledging your wins? Each day make a note of something amazing that you achieved. Perhaps you meditated for 2 mins, went for a refreshing walk, allowed yourself to sleep a little longer in bed.
I think it is important to remember at this time of year all the good things that we can achieve. We can increase our level of fitness, cut back in our alcohol consumption, include more healthy foods in our diet but if we trip up along the way, what is the big deal?
Life is a journey that we must enjoy and if we set achievable goals then we will be happier with the outcomes.
The key to achieving goals is about switching our mindset. Anytime I have the negative monkey on my shoulder whispering negative thoughts I notice where my thoughts are going, and I try to stop them in their track and switch them to a positive outlook.
This is easier said than done but it is worth the effort.
What we think, we attract so for 2019 how about acknowledging your wins rather than focusing on what’s wrong.
Have an amazing 2019!
