I have tried all sorts of yoga but never Hot Yoga. I love doing yoga outside at home in the Summer months (with plenty of Midge repellant on) and when I go abroad on holiday but the idea of being stuck in a dark room heated to a crazy temperature with 20 other sweaty people has never appealed to me.
However, when I booked my tickets to the Om Yoga Show Glasgow I saw that Hotpod were holding several workshops. I decided to take the plunge and booked my spot on a Dynamic Yoga Hotpod workshop.
Well! I approached this weird igloo looking tent in the corner of Hall 2 of the SECC, Glasgow. Everyone was stripping off outside the tent and I thought that I should remove my jumper and socks at least.
Thankfully I do own a yoga towel mat that I packed into my bag before I left the house this morning. I knew it would come in handy one day. Anyway, I crept through the flappy door and entered a dark room with a soft light. The room was comfortably warm. I rolled out my towel onto the mat that I had chosen and sat wondering what the class would be like. Whilst sitting on my mat I realised why the girls were stripped down to their sports bras and the guys had their t-shirts off.......it was roasting! For the first time in my yoga life I stood there on my mat in Scotland wearing my leggings and my sports bra too. The flappy door was zipped up and the Hotpod yoga teacher took her place at the front of the class.
Her teaching style was fantastic. It was a little difficult to hear her at times with all the background noise coming from the other workshops in the hall but with a lot of focus I was lost in the practice. The class flowed wonderfully and interestingly despite all the dynamic postures I felt that my body moved better with the heat. Not surprising since the temperature warmed my muscles. I thought that I would be too hot to move but this was not the case. The sweat was dripping from me by the end of the class but in a cleansing way. I absolutely loved the class and I am now hooked!
It was a shock to the system walking back out into the hall after that class....the hall was freezing in comparison to the toasty Hotpod. Lastly, I didn't really notice all the other sweating people since the ventilation in the tent was very good! I am a convert now. Thanks Hotpod Yoga!
